Spark is a basic reading and literacy program designed for primary school students who require assistance in developing their reading and comprehension skills. We are delighted to be partnering with Sunshine Heights Primary School once again.
There is also a critical element of socialisation, with reading mentors acting as positive and reliable role models for the participating students. The one-to-one time involved in the program encourages the student personally and has a powerful impact on their enjoyment of reading – all of which helps to build their confidence and self-esteem.
You will be matched with a student and all sessions will be held weekly at the school.
• Reading sessions are weekly and you will be shown the classroom location at the launch
• Mentors take turns on alternate weeks to mentor the student, so you are only required for 5 sessions all up (including the launch session)
• If you're unable to attend a session, you can swap with your “buddy” who looks after the same student.
• If your student is unwell, the school also has 'roving students' that will be substituted for your regular student
All mentors must obtain a Working with Children Check before commencing the program.
