Poor education, lack of skills and a shortage of job opportunities means many rural Cambodians are still living in extreme poverty with inadequate shelter. A simple, sturdy Khmer-style wooden house provides shelter and security for Cambodian families living in need. Volunteer Building Cambodia runs volunteer programs which involve a week of building a house to replace the fragile structures that offer little protection from the elements. This provides not just a home for families living in poverty, but improved living conditions that change lives, through better sanitation, increased security, better health, and an improved ability for children to attend school and receive an education, breaking the cycle of poverty for future generations.
We are seeking donations of ANY amount to contribute to supplies to build a house for a family in Cambodia.
• US$3000 is all it costs to fund a house build, and the basic human right of a secure shelter for a family.
• US$300 donation pays for a toilet, improving hygiene and sanitation and reducing health risks.
• US$200 pays for a well, ensuring a family, or sometimes a number of families, have access to clean drinking water.
VBC gratefully accept smaller donations, which contribute to supplies for our community centre and the ongoing running costs of Volunteer Building Cambodia.
No matter how large or small, your generosity makes a difference.
Volunteer Building Cambodia Australia (VBCA) is an Australian Registered Charity with tax deductible status (DGR Status) which enables donors to claim a tax deduction on any donations made to VBCA. VBCA was formed to support the work of Volunteer Building Cambodia. It is a Cambodian registered charity run by Cambodians for Cambodians. It main activity is building clean, dry and safe housing as well as providing toilets and wells.
VBC work with volunteers from around the globe to build safe, dry housing for rural Cambodian families. Volunteers work under the guidance of a skilled building team to construct a house in as little as one week.
How mush does it cost to build a home?
In rural areas of Cambodia's Siem Reap, VBC can build a house for just US$3,000 (around AU$4,550). But the difference it can make to the life of a family living in poverty is immeasurable.
