To Improve and Enhance Bushfire Preparedness and Recovery in Victoria
OUR PROGRAMS
Our programs are about undertaking vegetation management works that focus on reducing or eliminating the Hazards and Risks associated with a bushfire with the aim of reducing or eliminating the overall effects on a community and our programs are aimed primarily at assisting residents in the community such as:
- People in Financial Hardship
- Physical Difficulties (Short Term Injuries or Long term Injuries)
- Elderly Residents
- People with a Disability
HOME BUSHFIRE PREPAREDNESS PROGRAM
This program is designed to offer assistance to residents in the community that are unable to prepare their own homes for reasons such as they are elderly, injured or in financial Hardship by offering assistance with Bush Fire Preparedness Works Such As:
- Gutter – Cleaning and Clearing
- Tree and Shrub – Trimming or Removal
- Grass and Vegetation Management
- Fire Break Construction and Management
- Vehicle Access Points
- Inspection of Firefighting Equipment
- Reducing any other Risks or Hazards Associated with Bush fire’s
HOME BUSHFIRE RECOVERY PROGRAM
This program is designed to offer assistance to residents in the community that Have been affected by a bushfire by offering assistance with Bush Fire Recovery Works Such As:
- Property and Site Clearing
- Assistance with Salvaging of Personal Items from lost or Damaged Homes
- General Property Maintenance and Repairs
- Demolition or removal of unsafe structures
- regaining and tidying property access areas (like roads, tracks or driveways)
- re-vegetation
NATIONAL ANIMAL DISASTER RELIEF PROJECT
With this project we aim to develop a national program based on providing disaster relief to animals both stock and domestic that will see community animal relief teams provide preparedness, response and relief to animal owners across Australia.
WHAT WILL BE DONE:
- Promote animal-inclusive hazard mitigation, emergency preparedness and recovery amongst communities
- Develop and maintain national, regional and state based animal emergency responder’s
- Provide training and professional development in animal disaster management that will address skills gaps and create employment pathways
- Provide support to animal owners in emergencies with the evacuation/relocation of animals and provide appropriate support structures for their temporary care
- Update, Maintain and Operate an animal evacuation database available for partner organisations to access to promote real-time collaboration and information sharing during a disaster
- Work with existing animal shelters for the ongoing care, reunification or re-homing of evacuated animals if needed
- Implement post-disaster community recovery projects for improving animal welfare and resilience to future events (i.e. family animal emergency plans, re-vegetation of animal living environments)
